Legally Blonde has enjoyed massive success on Broadway and now it’s come to Las Vegas Academy (LVA). Many may wonder about the experience of participating in the musical, the audition process, and the actors’ feelings about being part of such an iconic project.
During an interview, Savannah Hules, who plays Elle Woods, Kami Johnson, who plays Vivian, and Bram Barnes, a part of the ensemble, expressed why they wanted to be a part of this show in the first place.”
“Legally Blonde has been my favorite musical since I was five, I think,” said Hules. “I’ve always wanted to do it, and it being my senior show I was like ‘No way that’s crazy!’ I’m super excited.”
Responding to the same question, Johnson said, “I actually was going for multiple roles. This role was honestly one of my last options. But once we got to callbacks, I found that it was a role I very much wanted. I found I could relate to her on some level.”
Barnes said, “I’ve auditioned for every single show my sophomore, junior, senior year, and since this is my senior year, I really wanted to make it into this production.”
For those who have never been a part of a theater production, naturally, the question of how the audition process works comes up.
Hules shared her perspective on the audition process: “It wasn’t too bad. Callbacks are the hard part; it’s the most grueling process, but it’s enjoyable.”
Johnson said, “The audition process was long but it is still very fun. I got to meet a lot of new people and there were a lot of different majors there.”
Barnes then answered, “There was the main audition that was a vocal call and after that there was a dance call. Later on, I had a call back and I had to learn a section of two songs…after that I had a final callback where we read lines and did more ensemble stuff.”
When asked if there was any advice they would give to anyone interested in auditions for the show they said, “just take every opportunity you can even if you’re not that confident. Just do it,” said Barnes.
Johnson said, “I think it’s important to have faith in everything you’re doing and to believe that you can get somewhere no matter what people tell you, if you work hard enough you can get to a good spot.”
Hules added, “We all put a lot of hard work and energy into it, and our directors as well. McCoy and our assistant director Pyton, they all worked really hard. I hope you enjoy the production.”
