Ballroom is a dance form that integrates rhythmic movement and personification of music, applying step-patterns and partnerships. The dance has many variations, including Latin dances such as cha-cha and samba, and more Western styles like the two-step and foxtrot.
Ballroom is practiced by many for a multitude of reasons. From personal experiences, ballroom is an exciting feat that encourages emotional and intense movement. The dance form is an expression of passion. Individuals may partake in ballroom for fun, exercise, and in some cases, competition.
At Las Vegas Academy, ballroom is offered as an academic option.
“I chose ballroom because I really enjoy dancing and I’ve been dancing since I was five years old. I wanted to try something new because I’ve never done ballroom before,” said Kirsten Harris during her second period ballroom class.
I found myself in the same situation as Harris. I’ve been dancing since I was around five as well, and I wanted to find a studio where I could feel at home in and try something new and engaging.
“(I) found my place there. So that’s why I think ballroom it’s I’m so happy to do it because I actually found a place that I really enjoy being at,” said Wehlre.
“I really just wanted to try something that was really partner focused and was pretty much different from what I had normally done. And I also think it’s very beautiful,” said Wehrle.
The exciting and entertaining dance form caters to all ages, making it a great choice for anyone wanting to start dancing. I find myself recognizing and cherishing the beauty of ballroom dancing, and I hope you do, too.
