Brandon Baez is a Film major in 11th grade at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. He shared with us some things he’s been enjoying about this school, some recent projects, and the challenges of some projects.
“My favorite part of this entire process is downtime when we aren’t, focusing on doing what we’re supposed to be doing with the crew or , the actors just dumb conversations or getting from place to place.” Baez said.
Baez mentions how ight now they are at the point in the process called screening. This is when they share the films they created and receive critiques in return. Some may find this part stressful, but Baez doesn’t think so.
“At the end of the day, it’s just advice and, you know, tips and tricks for you to know how to further get better,” Baez said.
Everything comes with its challenges, some are even out of anyone’s control. “I’m struggling to actually complete it since the scheduling was kind of odd for me and my actors,” Baez said. When filming something, especially during school it could be difficult to find a time when everyone is able to be there.
Usually at the beginning of the quarter their teacher picks a genre and the students work off of that. Baez talks about a few possible ideas he has for the future.
“Another idea I had was doing this gang type film that is way out of my reach, because I’ve never done something like that. But a little fun, you know? …fight scenes and stuff like a little action adventure film.” Baez says.
