Roses are a popular gift symbolizing appreciation and love, whether from a romantic partner or a close friend. However, they come in many different varieties of color, and these colors may send different messages to whomever may be receiving them. But are these hidden meanings accurate? Two students at Las Vegas Academy (LVA) were asked what color rose they would expect or want to receive based on who it was from.
First, students were asked what color of rose they would expect to receive from a romantic partner. Gabi Da Silva, a junior at LVA, said, “Either red, because those are the normal roses that everybody goes for, or pink, because that’s my favorite color.”
Many people agree that red roses are the best for showcasing romantic feelings. A blog post from the Kittelberger Florist website explains, “Red means love. While it doesn’t have to stand for passionate love, such as the love between a husband and wife, this is the typical interpretation of this rose color.” However, the previous response suggests that personal preference can vary. When it comes to receiving roses, some may prefer to receive their favorite color because that is more personal to them, and it may show that the person giving it knows them.
Next, students were asked what color they would expect to receive from a friend. Another junior at LVA, Camila Lopez, said that, “Red would be my friendship rose.” Even though they are most often referred to as the rose of romance, it may just depend on what the person getting the flowers wants.
Finally, students were asked what color of rose they would expect from a family member or parent and why. Both students answered that they would expect pink roses, but both for different reasons. Gabi said, “Pink because again it’s my favorite color.” Camila said, “Pink because that is a tone down from red.”
Overall, the answers were different based on each person’s liking. When doing some research on the Kittelberger Florist website, it was found that the common rose color for friendship is actually yellow, as it represents friendship, joy, and caring. In the end, if you’re looking for the perfect rose color to gift someone, knowing their personal preferences is key!
