In 2004, the band Paramore was formed in the city of Franklin, Tennessee. The members consisted of Hayley Williams (the vocalist), brothers Zach and Josh Farro (drummer and lead guitarist respectively), and Jeremy Davis (bassist). Their future rhythm guitarist, Jason Bynum, joined a few months later.
In the year of 2024, the current lineup consists of Hayley Williams, Zach Farro, and Taylor York. Everyone else left for a variety of reasons.
Their first album, All We Know is Falling was inspired by Jeremy Davis leaving the band because of “personal reasons.”
The album that shot their career off the ground got released in 2007. The album Riot! was an iconic album for many in the 2000s scene. Hit tracks from that album include “crushcrushcrush”, “Misery Business”, and “Fences”. It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t know at least one of those songs.
Especially in the Riot! album, the scene took a huge liking to it, selling over 42,000 copies the first week of its release, and debuting at #20 on Billboard. One of the reasons they were so popular is because a lot of people found a home within their music.
When asked which Paramore songs were widely known, Scarlett Smith, a junior at Las Vegas Academy (LVA), said, “Probably ‘Misery Business,’ ‘Still Into You,’ and ‘Ain’t It Fun.” “Still Into You” and “Ain’t It Fun” are two songs that were released in the self-titled album Paramore. This album was released in 2013, which was after their first two albums gained them a solid fanbase. While they’re more well known for their most recent music, the songs from Riot! and Brand New Eyes are still among the most iconic of the time.
The members of Paramore were teenagers when they released their Riot! album. The album was released on the idea of redefining the word “riot”. Instead of a violent thing, they wanted to make it seen as a place to have a good time; a musical riot.
The Riot album affected the culture around that time by opening up a new world of sound. Paramore was one of the first female fronted bands in the scene at a time where bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco dominated.
According to the album review on metalreviews.com, all the members of Paramore, “Play their parts flawlessly,” and the album is “Very easy to get into.”
Another one of their albums that was extremely popular in the 2000s, and still to this day, is called Brand New Eyes. A lot of the songs on that album are widely known. “The Only Exception” is one of their most popular songs overall, as well as “Ignorance.”
These two albums are what got Paramore a lot of the fanbase they have now. They were so deeply influential to many people in the emo scene, and still are today.
