If you’re active on social media, you’ve likely encountered the phrase “Very mindful, Very demure.” Coined by TikToker Jools Lebron, the phrase went viral in early August when Lebron posted a video showing off a professional, natural makeup look. 

According to CBS News, Jools said that the trend began when she opted for a more natural makeup look on her first day at a new job. “I was like, let’s go very natural. Let’s not do too much. So then I was like, I don’t show up to the first day with a green cut crease. I don’t show up looking like a clown, but I was really referencing how I had shown up at another job,” she said. 

“It’s overused. I was watching an Emma Chamberlain podcast last night and she was like, “This style is very demure.” Presley Ross, a junior at Las Vegas Academy said. “So many people are using it nowadays.”

                                                                                                           

Ross gave her definition of the word demure. “I think being demure, in general, is just to be very classy and show respect. That just goes for that entire phrase as a whole.”

Interestingly, the word “demure” has been in use since the 14th century and has retained its meaning of being reserved and modest. According to Merriam-Webster, “demure” continues to signify a sense of quiet elegance and propriety.

As social media continues to shape modern culture, phrases like “very mindful, very demure” highlight a collective desire for authenticity and respect. While the word “demure” has been around for centuries, its resurgence in today’s digital age underscores a timeless appreciation for modesty and class.
