Pet peeves– It’s something that a lot of people have. Whether big or small, people have annoyances. In a school, there are a lot of different people and opinions. With many people, come many pet peeves.
Emily McCabe, a freshman 2d visual design major, talked on how personal space is a pet peeve. “Like, so close into people’s spaces, like when you talk to someone, just so close. . . personal space. Like people need to respect that,” McCabe said. This is a common pet peeve especially at school. When waiting in line for lunch or walking to class during passing period. Those are times when people can get too close. To avoid this, students can take a step or two back when doing things like waiting in line or walking to class.
Nikali Osbourne, a senior 2d visual design major, expressed how littering is their pet peeve. “Everyone has to clean up after them. And so it’s like really rude. Clean up your trash after lunch. Dude, don’t leave your stuff there,” Osbourne said. Osbourne’s annoyance was focused on the environment and people’s manners. It is common to run into this pet peeve during lunchtime or breakfast.
Teachers work in the same environment as students. There are similar pet peeves between students and teachers. Jason Ibarra, a 2d visual design teacher, was asked about pet peeves and had a similar answer to Osbourne’s. “I think just trash. I think that’s one of my biggest pet peeves like picking up garbage. Whenever it’s very easy we have a lot of trash cans so whenever I see trash around, it’s kind of frustrating,” he said. Ibarra cares a lot about the trash at school.
Teachers and students are very different from each other. Both have different jobs to get done at school, but there can be similarities like Osbourne and Ibarra. The student and the teacher find people who don’t clean up after themselves to be a nuisance. A pet peeve that they both share. A way to fix this pet peeve is to encourage cleaning up recycling at school. Making an effort to promote cleaning up can help the school fix this problem.
Based on who I spoke with, pet peeves of students can be very diverse. Even though they are very different, they can have similar annoyances with teachers. A lot of these pet peeves are problems that can be solved. To solve these problems people can start to be more mindful of what they do and how it makes others feel.
