A catchphrase is something someone says often and that is unique to them. At Las Vegas Academy (LVA), 5 students share their favorite core teachers’ sayings and slogans.
English teacher Ms. Moosburgger’s slogan is, “I’m peachy”. She says this whenever someone asks her how she is. Junior Visual Arts major Kaelyn Thomas said. “I really love Ms. Moosbrugger. When she says silly things, I think she’s awesome, amazing, and awe-inspiring.”
Mr. Fitzgerald, a math teacher, loves to use the tagline, “Don’t wish for it, work for it.” One of his former students, Junior Multimedia and Communications Major Eliana Wehrle, said this about his saying: “I like the sentiment that things won’t just come to you; you have to go out and get them yourself to make a change.”
One of LVA’s science teachers Ms. Jensen is always heard saying, “Did you see the sunset?” Senior Graphic Design major Marissa Mansanas heard this and said, “The quote ‘Did you see the sunset?’ really focuses on the little joys of life, which can be grounding in such a stressful school environment.”
History teacher Mr. Gorman’s answer to every question is, “I just work here!” Student Siew Chin Thai said, “I think it’s funny and relatable because it’s something almost everyone experiences.”
Another math teacher Ms. Erculei often says, “Creativity is limitless, but clarity is key.” Student Presley Ross says “A lot of people have creativity and talents, which are really cool and can get you far in life. But if you have clarity about something, that is what really gets you far in life. Intelligence and learning new things are very important.”
Catchphrases are important because they make things easier to remember and connect with. A catchy line sticks, whether it’s a TV show or a motivational phrase. It helps to understand the essence of something quickly, gives something familiar to relate to, and even makes certain moments more fun or impactful.
