Many students at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (LVA) love to express themselves through style; whether it’s trendy styles like preppy, goth, or Y2K, many LVA students have different opinions on style trends.
Junior vocal major Elicia Torres shared her thoughts on one of her least favorite trends. “When guys undo the top buttons so it’s showing off their chest,” Torres said. She expressed that she wasn’t sure if this was a trend, but she has always been disgusted when she sees boys walking around this way. “I just don’t like this. Period.”
Madalyn Rushforth, a freshman band major, said, “I would say mullet.” She expressed that she didn’t like how this trend kept becoming more and more popular over the years. This hairstyle was never and will never be appealing to her.
Alexavian Pratt, a junior orchestra major, had something else to say about this topic. “Overly baggy jeans that make you look like you’re gonna fly away,” Pratt said. He expressed that baggy jeans themselves are okay, but if they fit too large then it is not as flattering.
When asking Abigail Larson, a junior graphic design major for her opinion, she said that she is not a huge fan of the “Clean girl aesthetic.” This aesthetic is very put together and contains many neutral colors. She states that she enjoys when clothing has more expressive colors in them to show off more personality.
Marcus Vickers, a sophomore film major, had a similar statement to Alex’s when being interviewed. He said that he doesn’t like it “When a bunch of people keep wearing the same baggy pants or baggy stuff.” He explains that it can get tiring at times.
Lastly, when interviewing Kenna Rushforth, a senior band major, she stated that she doesn’t like, “When guys wear tank tops,” Rushforth said. She expresses that she doesn’t like guys who try to show off their muscles. “I don’t find their big shoulders attractive. I also don’t find their scrawny shoulders attractive. I also don’t like seeing their exposed armpits,” she said with a laugh.
Many of these trends are controversial and tell a lot about the person themself. These students’ opinions demonstrate just how much there is to explore about LVA students’ style. Some of these trends may be fading or may be regular statements, but either way, personal style helps people express what matters most to them.
