SOL’s Hispanic Heritage Spirit Week took place on the week of Oct. 7. It included spirit days like Flag Day, Icon Day, Vaquero Day, Dia Del Nino, and finally Heritage Day, also known as Piñata Day. The week was very successful, with many students dressing up for each day.
On Friday, the last day of spirit week, students celebrated Heritage Day. SOL brought out pinatas that people could hit during the second half of lunch, the cause for its double name Piñata Day.
One of the many volunteers chosen to hit the piñata was sophomore 2D Visual Design major Joseangel Monteon.
Before he was chosen to hit the piñata he was cheering for other people. “It was a very fun ambiance. It was a very fun event, and I was just there in the crowd, watching people as they got picked and hit the piñata,” said Monteon.
There was no specific reason as to why he wanted to participate in hitting the piñata. “It would be cool to hit it in front of everyone and to be a big part of the whole event,” said Monteon. Unfortunately, he did not break the piñata, but he did get very close.
Luckily out of the whole event he did collect a lot of candy. Not only did he keep some of the candy for himself, but he also shared it among his friends. Most importantly he had lots of fun. He said, “It was a very fun event, I love it when SOL does events like this.”
SOL’s Hispanic Heritage Spirit Week had a positive impact at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. It’s certain SOL will continue to keep up this positivity!
