From Hermès to Bottega Veneta, the fashion industry has evolved significantly over the years by creating new trendy styles and different brands with influencers and big celebrities playing a big role in developing designer brands and other clothing trends we see on social media.
Theater major Jada Knox said, “I think celebrities represent the current trends and what people like, and so designers have to use them as a base on what they’re going to create.”
Designer fashion was originally used to show exclusivity, only being associated with people of royal status or the wealthy. As luxury fashion became more open to everyone, it started to appear at many events such as fashion shows, red carpet, and photoshoots while also becoming a common gift for influencers to promote.
Celebrities and influencers such as Kim Kardashian, Zendaya, and Madeleine White influence designer brands by increasing brand visibility and bringing attention to new items and trends. When these people wear them to events or post on social media, it grabs attention from fans and other people interested in fashion.
Multimedia Arts major DJ Jones gives us more information on how they think these people can affect designer fashion. “I think influencers, especially if it’s like a social media influencer, because I think now a lot of fashion brands are kind of looking for like, that next like shock in fashion, because if they get that shock, then people will talk about it online.”
As Coco Chanel said, “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” This highlights how the media has reshaped designer fashion, keeping its famous trends while some continue to come and go, making it more accessible and more appealing because of influencers and other big A-list celebrities.
