Ms. Mabel’s Journey
Ms. Mabel, the visual art teacher, has been at Las Vega Academy of the Arts (LVA) for about 22 years. Ms Mabel has shown how much she cares about this school over the past years with the charge she takes when planning events, teaching students, and running (NAHS) National Art Honor society. She’s also the head of the art department at LVA.
Although it wasn’t always like that, Ms. Mabel stated that she started teaching at El Dorado and then went onto open Mojave Highschool. During her time here she has noticed the determination of the students. She has mentioned that although she’s gotten used to the campus, she still can get used to the talent of said students.
Student Impact
Ms. Mabel has said that the students’ talent and capability to open up is one of the biggest contrasts from her old school. She says that the biggest part she is grateful for, is how the kids share their ideas and are open about them. While teaching at her two other schools, she mentioned how the kids were more private and didn’t like sharing their ideas, but at LVA everyone is so much more trustworthy and open.
Staff Admiration
This admiration doesn’t just go to her students. When asked what she thought was the best part about the staff here she said, “The people here love to work together. When we get together, we work together and come up with phenomenal ideas.” Ms. Mabel has shown her deep gratitude and admiration towards the staff and how well they work together.
One of the things they mainly admire about Ms. Mabel is her way of teaching. Although she might seem harsh, she tends to have the capacity to tell you things straight to your face, encouraging you to try new things while she pushes you forward in order to grow as an artist.
