Oscar Piastri won his third race in a row this season with an astounding win at Miami on Sunday. Starting fourth, Piastri worked his way past Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli, and Lando Norris. The win was only sweeter after finishing 13th last year on the same track.
Along With Piastri’s win (the first time a Mclaren driver won 3 times since Mika Hakkinen in 1998), The Mclaren team showed clear dominance with both drivers finishing first and second over 30 seconds in front of George Russel in third place. Mclaren is already on track to finish first in the constructors championship for the second year in a row, just barely beating Red Bull last year, but there is much more season left.
Some other drivers didn’t fare as well, Jack Doohan, Gabriel Borteletto, Oliver Bearman, and Liam Lawson did not finish the race.
Jack Doohan crashed into Liam Lawson at the first turn of the race and had to retire, not being able to make it all the way back to the pit lane after a puncture in his tire. Gabriel Bortoleto retired because of a fuel system issue. Oliver Bearman retired after his car shut down on lap 28 because of the power unit. Liam Lawson retired because of damage sustained from his collison with Doohan during the first lap.
Weather was also unpredictable at Miami with threats of rain the whole race, it did not end up raining even though it had been raining a few hours before.
The next race is the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix italy. The first practice will be Friday, May 16, 2025 at 6:30.
