It is now May and finals are coming up faster than some may think. The class of 2028’s freshman year is coming close to the end with these final few weeks ahead. They have been working hard all year long and have grown from who they were just 9 months ago when they first entered Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (LVA.)
Meet Harlow Romero, a freshman theater major. Romero recounts why she chose to do theater at LVA. “I liked acting in middle school and I wanted to do it more in high school,” said Romero. LVA’s dedication to the arts takes focus compared to other schools. “I definitely say there’s a big difference in expectations,” said Romero regarding the difference between acting in middle and high school.
Romero says how their Theater I class just completed LVA’s annual Shakespeare fest, “we were doing two 30-minute plays,” and, “it was really fun. I did my show near the beginning of the day. We watched other shows and we just hung out.” LVA’s theater department offers many unique experiences for theater students to unleash their creativity and have fun along the way.
LVA also has a vast selection of clubs and organizations for students to choose from. For example, Romero participates in LVA’s thespians club where they, “talk about theater, and then they do games sometimes, and we have auditions for the cabarets.” She is also part of the Student Council (StuCo) and says they plan a majority of LVA’s events.
Theater majors often watch each other’s shows and Romero describes them as, “Very fun and they’re amazing to watch. Like, all of them are very like calibers high.” Additionally, she aspires to be casted in a Lowden show since it’s, “like main stage.”
As the year’s curtains begin to draw, freshmen are able to look back and reflect on all the growth and experiences they have gained this year. Events like Shakespeare fest, or clubs like StuCo, are things that freshmen, Harlow Romero, can look back on this year. LVA has hopefully provided exciting opportunities to foster their creative talents. As their educational journey continues at LVA, they will make their mark on stage and beyond.
