I’ve been dying to get my hands on the book Don’t Be In Love by Liana Cincotti, and luckily I finally have. I didn’t waste a second to start reading. Here’s an overview of chapter one!
Chapter 1
Starting off in chapter 1, our main character -whose name we were not aware of- is in her junior year of school located in Boston. While she was walking to her global marketing exam she saw some sort of poster illustrating an opportunity to study abroad to lovely beloved London. She goes to her advisor getting to know more about this opportunity and boom! We’re in London.
The school she will be attending is Townsen University, also known as one of the most prestigious colleges in the world. She landed in London in June, which led her to meet her roommates Mia and Sabrina. We’re then given a brief summary about Mia, who is a journalism major and is also from the states, particularly Washington.
Mia and the main character are now on their way to a club. Mia practically forced the main character to go inside because it was, “invite only.” It was only them two at the time due to the fact that Sabrina was forced by her dads to go to this networking event. One of her dads is the owner of several luxury hotel chains across Europe and the UK.
Continuing on, the girls enter the club and the main character was joking about the fact that they were going to some cult. Mia goes to the bartender and tells them something and comes back to state that the invitation worked. They were given directions to go through a door and downstairs, “and into a creepy dungeon?” said by the main character.
As they were going down the stairs the main character hit her head on Mia’s head, then when she looked up and saw a jazz bar. Having older gentlemen playing music on a small stage and people dancing, while others were sitting at small wooden tables. Both of the girls start talking about finding Sabrina, a “new guy here.” The main character states that Sabrina wouldn’t go for that, and that she’s been obsessed with this crush of hers, this crush is named, “Dorian.” Sabrina supposably expresses that he’s really hot/attractive but the girls never seen him nor even know if he’s real. Brina (Sabrina’s nickname) is a heartfelt girl who wishes for her rom-com moments.
The main character then voices that, “academics and working would be my number one priority while I live in London.” Mia was about to tell the main character for them to find a table but was cut off by a really handsome guy. “The kind of handsome that you check the hinges on your jaw.” “He stood several inches above me with a sly smile and a dimple on his left cheek. The color of his eyes and hair matched the color of black coffee, sitting neatly above his ears. His skin was a few shades lighter than his hair; a tan that complemented his dark brown eyes. Then he opened his mouth, and this unfairly beautiful British accent came out,” stated by the main character.
Thoughts and Feelings
This is the conclusion of chapter 1, let’s express our thoughts. I personally really enjoyed this chapter but I do have some comments. The transition from Boston to London was pretty quick. I understand the fact that the book is mainly revolving around London, but I would’ve liked to understand more of our character’s background at least for the first chapter. Additionally, I wish we were given the main character name for better understanding but it wasn’t a huge issue for me at least. At the end of the chapter when we are introduced to the guy I was screaming on the inside for the main character lol.
Conclusion
Overall I’m very happy with the book so far, and I’m very excited to find out more about our mystery British man. If you are interested in reading the book yourself, you can find the book on Amazon.
