Popular music artists Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco made headlines when their engagement was announced in December 2024, a year after their relationship was made public.
Rewinding to 2015, Blanco started his working relationship with Gomez when he produced her Revival songs, “Same Old Love” and “Kill ‘Em With Kindness.” Later, in 2019, the pair collaborated on their song “I Can’t Get Enough” with J Balvin and Tainy.
A couple of years later, on October 4, 2023, Blanco was spotted supporting Gomez at her “Rare Beauty Rare Impact Fund Benefit” event. Afterwards, rumors sparked of the two dating. Still, a source confirmed Gomez was single in a November 26 interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying, “Selena is casually dating and doing well. She is doing her own thing and doesn’t feel any sort of pressure to be in a relationship.” Surprisingly, on December 7, an Instagram comment made by the username popfactions said, “#SelenaGomez seemingly confirms that she is in a relationship,” with Gomez herself seemingly confirming by commenting “Facts”.
Gomez and Blanco went public with their relationship on December 7, 2023, with Gomez posting an Instagram story of her and Blanco lying together and another picture of a “B” ring on her left finger. A source told Entertainment Tonight that, “Selena and Benny have been casually seeing each other for a while and more recently, it became more official.”
At the beginning of 2024, Gomez and Blanco made their first public appearance at the Los Angeles Lakers’ vs. Miami Heat game. Many fans expected the two to attend the Golden Globes together, but they did not. However, Gomez did share an Instagram story of them kissing, writing “I won.” Multiple months of the couple posting Instagram stories together, birthday tributes, and speaking about each other in interviews and magazines.
Blanco told Us Weekly, “You know when you think you met the right person, you’re like, ‘Oh my god.’ But it feels so different. The second we started hanging out, I was like, ‘This is my wife’.” Engagement rumors sparked for the couple when Gomez shared a photo of her getting ready to go out with her left ring finger covered by a double pink heart emoji on August 8th. But it was not until December 11 that Gomez announced her official engagement to Blanco through an Instagram photo. The caption on the post was, “forever begins now,” with Blanck commenting, “hey wait…that’s my wife.” The picture of the two went viral, with 2.8 million people liking it in its first hour. Over multiple days, Gomez shared beautiful pictures of her marquise diamond-cut ring.
On February 14, 2025, the recently engaged couple announced their album together, I Said I Love You First, and a song, “Scared of Loving You” on Instagram. As for wedding planning, “I think every day she’s (Gomez) planned a new wedding in her head. We’re very much ‘take it one day at a time ’- type of people,” said Blanco in a Rolling Stone interview. Overall, Blanco and Gomez look so happy together, and their fans cannot wait to see what they do in the future.
