From April 8-11th, I traveled to Reno for the SkillsUSA competition, where I was set to compete in photography. It had been some time since anyone from Las Vegas Academy entered this category, I was expectant towards how it would unfold. One afternoon, our group decided to venture outside the hotel. With Reno’s northern landscape, it offered a refreshing view of oak and pine trees, along with diverse wildlife. It was a welcoming change from the decorative palm trees and monotone desert colors that I typically see.

This was the first time being near the river. Yes, there are ponds in Las Vegas, although most of them are gated inside a community or outside my general area. Feeling the river sprinkle on my fingers felt different than the mist from a sprinkler; more specifically, it felt natural.
