Kealyn Thomas is a junior 2D Visual Arts major at Las Vegas Academy. She loves her friends, books and especially cats.
Thomas devotes her days to saving the forgotten dogs and cats that were abandoned with a kind heart and calm resolve. She doesn’t do anything to gain attention. Every animal should feel protected, loved, and wanted, which is why she does it. Kaelyn doesn’t choose to be kind. She is who she is.
Soon, what began as a few little rescues turned into something more. Now, Thomas puts in continuous work to provide each animal a second chance by placing them with families who share her passion for them. She provides them with food, cleanliness, and health care, but above all, she provides them with the warmth, hope, and trust they have been lacking.
“So my mom saw people posting on Facebook groups, and she saw this lady that needed to have some cats be rescued, because she found them, but she couldn’t take care of them because she didn’t have enough money. And so we came over to her house to get the cats, and the lady had accidentally let them out, so we had to look for them for around an hour and a half, and we had to go through piles of rubbish and trash, because the house next door had burned down, and so we had to look through there and kind of scavenge through.” Thomas had it in her heart to look through the garbage for hours and was willing to wait her whole day for the cat to come out.
“And we found the black cat, thankfully, and then we put him in his crate, but we could not find the girl cat, which was pregnant. The boy cat got re-homed. His name was Po, and the mom, we call her, Lana, who had her kittens a few weeks ago, and so we’ve been taking care of our kittens so far. They’re starting to climb and play around now. It’s really cute.” She cares and nurtures them until they are ready to go re-home to a caring family who can carry on what Thomas is doing
Even though Kaelyn Thomas is only one person, her impact is immeasurable. She serves as a reminder that compassion can transform lives, not only for the animals we save, but also for ourselves, with each rescue and rehomed. She is genuinely exceptional.
