Jamie Huston is a freshman English teacher at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (LVA). He is a fan of popular media like The Simpsons and Lord of the Rings.
Mr. Huston is an avid reader who often sets lofty reading goals for himself.
“I’m currently about halfway through a multi-year project to read every book that was cited in the first edition of the Dungeons and Dragons Manual,” Huston said. The original Dungeons Master’s Guide is a book from 1978 that was intended to teach people how to play Dungeons and Dragons.
In this guide, Huston has most enjoyed niche media like The Broken Sword and The Dying Earth. The Broken Sword is a fantasy novel published in 1954. It follows two humans raised by elves. The Dying Earth is a speculative fiction series that started being published in 1950 and completed in 1984. The books are set in the distant future, when the sun is almost exhausted and magic is keeping it alive.
Jamie Huston is famously a fan of Steven King books, too. Some of the most popular Steven King books include The Shining, IT, Misery, Pet Sematary, and the short story The Body. Huston’s personal favorite Stephen King book is The Stand, a post-apocalyptic book published in 1978. In the start of the book, an antigen virus is created in a government facility and intended to be a biological weapon. This virus kills 99% of the population in the United States. During the rest of the book, the characters try to rebuild society from the ground up.
