“Don’t be afraid to say no, but also, don’t be afraid to say yes” Rain bidleras’s biggest piece of advice, and one she lives by.
Most know LVA’s costume design teacher for her work as a parapro for the last two years and as the newest member of the theater department, but she wasn’t always planning to be where she is now. “I was an actor in High school,” said Bidleras. “I helped out with a little bit of the tech side of things. I would rotate and help backstage as much as possible.” said Bidleras.
Even though she took theater as far back as high school, originally Bidleras had other plans for college. “ I was thinking I was gonna major in Physics,” said Bidleras. “But then I didn’t get into my first choice college, and I went’ Well I’ve enjoyed theater. Maybe I’ll major in theater at my safety school and then transfer to where I really want to go.’” said Bidleras. With a plan set in her mind, she made plans to carry it through and apply to the University of Arizona. “I was looking at the theater program, and I saw that they had a costume design degree. I was like ‘wait, hold on. I didn’t realize this was an option.” said Bidleras.
Having grown up sewing, and never buying a halloween costume in her life, Bidleras decided to give it a try. Now, two degrees later, she is teaching in a job she almost didn’t take.
