Students and staff at Lowden Theater are preparing for the highly anticipated fall guitar concert on October 2, 2025, at 6 p.m., featuring diverse performances by Varsity One, Two, and Three ensembles.
Students shared their excitement for the upcoming concert, highlighting the new repertoire and improved ensembles.
When asked what he’s most excited about for the performance, Mitchell said “The expansion of repertoire and the exposure of new music in the fall concert.”
Brooklyn Shearer shared her thoughts on how this year’s concert will compare to last year’s: “This year’s fall concert will be a lot better. We have brand new Varsity One students, and I feel like they’re going to do really well.”
We spoke with Dr. Lucas Finney, the guitar director, about the upcoming fall concert, its theme, and what audiences can expect.
“The theme of the concert is simply ‘play guitar,’” Dr. Finney said. “We’re experimenting with different tunings, like 432 Hz instead of 440 Hz, and exploring music from the Baroque to the modern era.”
The guitar concert will feature different tunings, which will create a variety of sounds, allowing the ensembles to play music from various time periods.
Dr. Finney encouraged audiences to expect an impressive performance from all three varsity ensembles.
“They’ll play a wide range of music, from Baroque to modern and more indeterminate pieces,” he said. “No two performances will be the same, so you’ll definitely see something unique to our campus.”
“I’m excited to see our students raise the bar this year,” Dr. Finney said. “It’s always special to watch first-time performers and those playing their final concert. The fall concert is one of my favorites because it challenges everyone to push their musicianship in a large ensemble setting.”
Don’t miss this unique musical experience on October 2, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Lowden Theater.
