According to Earth.org, 9.2 million tons of clothing waste is made every year. From fast fashion to the increased usage of fossil fuels, the sustainability of the earth is constantly being threatened. We consume resources at a rate 1.75 times faster than can be replenished adequately enough, so much so that to sustain the world’s ecological footprint we would need almost two earths.
Although this crisis is daunting in its large scale, taking small steps and changing out every day habits can be the difference that improves our home. The well being of our home should matter to everyone, so the question rises, what can you do to help save our planet?
Addie Lee, Social Media Manager for LVA’s Sustainability Club, “We can recycle, compost, and pick up litter when possible” said Lee.
Even so, some people say that what they do doesn’t make a difference, and it doesn’t matter if they change or not. However, it’s so important to be sustainable, because if everyone did nothing because they felt their actions didn’t matter, then nothing will be fixed.
“We should care about being sustainable because this is the only world we live in, and we should treat it with kindness,” Lee said.
Restoring the planet requires a consistent and collective effort. Taking actions such as recycling, composting, reducing waste and other suggestions from the Sustainability Club can contribute to making a healthier earth.
