What has LVA Vocal been up to behind the curtain? I sat down with one of the co-presidents of Academy Singers, Danielle Cox, to find out what they’ve been working on and what we can expect from them in the coming weeks.
“The executive board as a whole meets a few days in the week to talk about some things that we want to get up and running when it comes to concerts and overall community in the Vocal Department,” Cox said.
Themed weeks are a long-standing tradition within the Vocal department; each concert during the year has its own dedicated theme for Vocal students. “We have a fun themed week leading up to the concert next week,” Cox said.
LVA Vocal’s fall concert, Dusk to Dawn, is on Friday, October 10th at 6 PM, in the Performing Arts Center. The concert highlights classical music and brings all the choirs together with a combined piece, “Choose Love,” composed by Kyle Pederson.
In the months ahead, the vocal department will host a buddy meeting to help freshmen prepare for their juries. “We have a buddy meeting planned before our juries…” The buddy program in LVA Vocal allows freshmen to seek help from senior and some select junior Vocal students in Konzert Chorale or Academy Singers.
Stay tuned for my next interview with Academy Singers’ other co-president, Mia Vazquez, as we dive deeper into their plans for the year.
