While this song was originally about the protagonist’s relationship with virtual reality, as stated by the band, it’s changed to mean more. A lot of people’s opinion is that it refers to Matt Bellamy’s guitar and how it can symbolize an escape from the world.
- Darkshines

According to the lead singer, Matt Bellamy, this song is about seeing a girl that has a darker energy. It questions why we are so attracted to the darker side of things. It’s a love song in its own right, although it’s a little more melancholy than most of their discography.
- Resistance

- The Dark Side

Muse, Simulation Theory, Warner Bros. 2018

- Invincible

This song is about optimism, almost an unhealthy amount. The idea of being “invincible” is about seeing the best in things. It’s a mix of a love song and a politically charged song: seeing hope in every situation.
- Kill or Be Killed

This song is about resisting oppression and surviving regardless. Lyrically, it’s about being forced to survive, and kill, within the middle of a war. This is also about adapting to hardship and growing stronger throughout your struggles.
