At Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, students pursue their passions with vigor. Among them is Nathan Lanz, a piano major whose dedication to both music and academics sets him apart.
There are plenty of majors at LVA to choose from and in those majors there are many students who cherish and work hard to do what they are best at. Nathan Lanz is an incredible piano major who has dedicated his time here in his academic and personal growth.
Nathan Lanz grew up with a very music related and overall music loving family. He looks up to his grandfather who also plays the piano for the church. Giving us a glance into what drives him to succeed, Nathan Lanz said, “My grandfather plays for the church, and I’ve always wanted to kind of help pitch in with the church, but I’ve never been good enough, so I’m just striving to be at that point where I can have my own liberty on the piano.” giving us a glance into what’s driving him to continue getting better. Lanz first started at the age of 13 and has shown immense growth by putting hours of practice throughout the years.
During his time at LVA he’s noticed significant growth not just in his playing but as an overall person. He describes himself as a “very rambunctious person” with a very social and openly direct personality.
Lanz demonstrates a passion for excellence even in extracurricular activities such as badminton for which he’s competed in both regional and national tournaments. Academically, he has a GPA of 4.0 despite being in honors and AP classes.
Although Nathan does not plan on taking up piano as a career, he says that in the future he hopes it’s still a big part of his life. He hopes it’s a way to take off stress and a positive hobby when he’s feeling down.
