As of February 6th 2026, CCSD announced that the district would be losing over $50 million in funding for schools due to lack of enrollment. Meaning that over 1,200 workers will be impacted and cut going into the 2026-2027 school year.
LVA in particular has been heavily affected by this. There have been many changes throughout the year. Originally, 10 positions were cut: one English teacher, one math teacher, two foreign language teachers, theater tech, two custodians and two administrative assistants.
Though LVA has regained a few of these positions. The English position is not being filled, but the teacher left the school. The two administrative assistants are also leaving, meaning that those positions will also not be filled. The math position has been reinstated, so have the custodians and the theater tech position. The foreign language positions are still cut.
These classes weren’t the only ones cut, as the Media Arts and Communications major has been discontinued. There will be no further auditions into the major and the current students will continue until they graduate.
The two foreign teachers that have been cut are Ms. Jeffreys and Ms. Murray. The Japanese and Spanish teachers. Both are being cut, and Ms. Jeffrey’s has been surplused. Surplused is when a teacher is fired, but is the first considered for a new position when the opportunity arises within a year.
Even though we are sad to say goodbye to every teacher leaving, we must. We wish them all the best of luck on their endeavors.
