Renee Good was a 37-year-old mother of three, a kind-hearted women who had recently moved to the city of Minneapolis. She was recognized as a prize-winning poet, writer, and in fact “city leaders have said [she] was there as a legal observer of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities.” Her name scored across the country of the United States when she was killed by a federal immigration agent on Jan 7. She sustained three and possibly four gunshot wounds on her body through her SUV.
According to FOX12, Tricia McLaughlin, a public affairs official with the Department of Homeland Security, Good was, “stalking and harassing law enforcement.” Videos of the incident showcase an ICE officer firing his weapon many times towards her vehicle. APM Reports made public that ICE agents have been trained to give CPR to people in need of assistance, but they didn’t assist Good. After the event, officers completed a brief medical assessment and left the woman alone, bleeding out in her car for a total of three minutes before calling 911. There was a man on site of the tragedy who identified himself as a physician who could give her aid. Regardless of his title, ICE agents didn’t permit the man to render aid. It took a total of ten minutes before Good received CPR. Many first responders acquired phone calls from the bystanders around the area; police, ambulance and fire crew made their way to help. Although, they had difficulty getting to the scene because the streets were filled with vehicles, of which numerous belonged to ICE. Once firefighters had arrived on scene to Good, “she wasn’t breathing. But they reported she did still have a pulse, albeit “thready and irregular.” An ambulance rushed Good to Hennepin County Medical Center, but once they reached their destination there was nothing left that could be done and they stopped any lifesaving efforts. Almost an hour later had passed the shots from Jonathan Ross were made.
Many voices have come to the surface regarding individual’s opinions of Renee Good, including from President Donald Trump. According to FOX12 he began by expressing how ICE are “going to make mistakes sometimes. ICE is going to be too rough with somebody, or they’re dealing with rough people,” Trump said. “They’re going to make a mistake sometimes. It can happen. We feel terrible. I felt horribly when I was told that the young woman … the tragedy. It’s a tragedy. It’s a horrible thing. Everybody would say, ICE would say the same thing.” Continuing, he recognized the fact that the father of Good was a Trump supporter and that he hopes he still is.
Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota, has spoken upon the matter on social media platform TikTok. “This long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement. Instead it’s a campaign of organized brutality against the people of Minnesota by our own federal government. Last week, that campaign claimed the life of Renee Nicole Good.”
Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, said to CBS News on TikTok, “To ICE, get the [explicit] out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety and you are doing exactly the opposite.”
As of now, the family of Good has recently hired the law firm that has represented George Floyd’s family.
