The fantasy genre is all around us in books, movies, and TV shows. Fantasy is a broad spectrum, ranging from worlds filled with dragons and magic to more subtle types of magic set in areas that resemble our real world. Las Vegas Academy (LVA) has a large book-reading community as seen from the successful turnout of book club. The fantasy genre is very popular with LVA students as well.
“It’s so different from the real world and because you could just make anything, As long as you back it up with a good plot and a good reason you could just make anything,” senior member of the book club Liora Fink said. “You can be fully immersed in something completely different and it doesn’t have to be related to anything you really know in the real world. And because it’s so different it helps you just dive into it and get lost.”
This is a commonly shared opinion of the genre. It can be a great form of escapism and is different from the real world where we can get fully sucked into the stories.
“My favorite fantasy book is The Girl Who Drank The Moon. I really appreciate the multiple perspectives. While most people think it makes the book confusing, I think it really adds to the whimsical effect of it. And it fully develops all areas of the plot until it all comes together,” Fink said.
