Shopping malls are a dying breed. Walking around the Galleria Mall with my friends, I realized businesses I remembered being there since I was a small child had been replaced or completely disappeared, the gates down and covered in advertisements for other stores. I realized they’d likely closed down because of a lack of business, which makes me fear for the future of the Galleria Mall itself. Malls are a vital part of our city. Las Vegas doesn’t have many teen-friendly walkable areas, and the malls provide a safe space where youth are able to gather with each other and engage in our community.
