At the beginning and end of each year, in November through February, award season starts. During this period, works of art are celebrated and compete to see who will win an award for the best in their category (could be Best Actress, Cinematography, and more.) Some of the biggest awards include the Grammy, Golden Globe, Tony, and Emmy. But the one that’s most anticipated, biggest, popular, and culminates at the end of award season is the Oscars, also known as The Academy Awards. The Oscar nominations came out a few days ago, and have left many people wondering who’s going to win.
Christopher Hernandez has been watching the Oscars since he was a kid. It inspired him to take Video as an elective at Las Vegas Academy. During an interview, Hernandez expresses his thoughts on the Oscar nominations for this season. “I thought it was fine. All the movies are good. I know people really like Marty Supreme. I’ve never watched it personally, but I’ve seen clips, and it looks pretty good. And, you know, the other films are great too. They’re all incredible movies. But I honestly just think, you know, it’s my personal pick,” said Hernandez.
Along with these nominations, they’re all organized into categories to win awards. A couple are Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. The one most people watch for is who wins Best Picture. The award that congratulates the best movie of that year.
Hernandez continues, explaining his personal choice on who will win Best Picture. “I think One Battle After Another should win Best Picture because, well, I just really like the story. I also liked Leonardo DiCaprio’s performance overall. I think it’s just a well-rounded story. And I think I don’t know, maybe I have a personal bias, but I just like Leonardo DiCaprio in every movie he’s in, so it was definitely a treat to watch,” said Hernandez.
The Oscars’ choices on who wins and loses could cause controversy. Especially since the show runs for quite a while just to be left with a choice, leaving someone disappointed, this leads to some of the audience not even watching The Oscars.
“I think they’re worth watching if you really care about films, because you really get to see it’s like the payoff. You really get to see what they worked for, and it’s very exciting. It’s an uplifting event. So, yeah, definitely, yes,” said Hernandez, chiming in his opinion on whether the Oscars are worth watching.
The big lead-up to the 98th Academy Awards is rising tension. Along with the release of this year’s nominations, everyone is on the edge of their seats, as everything from last year culminates into an end and answers the question. Who will win it all?
