The students of LVA had their Homecoming for the 2025-2026 school year on Saturday, October 18th. The theme for this dance was City of Stars, which is based on the movie La La Land.
At Homecoming, there were various performances by student bands. One band had many students dancing to the song “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon. The dance utilized the Breezeway, Old Gym, and New Gym.
In the Breezeway, students could hang out with their friends while listening to live music. The Old Gym was the dance floor, where students danced the night away, took group photos, and lit up glow sticks. Inside the New Gym were games like Corn Hole, Basketball, Darts, and more!
Of course, Homecoming isn’t Homecoming without the homecoming court winners. The freshman homcoming court winners are Kennedi Battle for Lady and TyJuan Clark for Lord. For the sophomore court, the winners were Hope Mathis for Dutchess and Paxton Garcia for Duke. For the junior court, the winners were Addey Lee for Princess and Ryan Hill for Prince. Lastly, the LVA 2025 Homecoming King and Queen titles went to Cannon Thomas for King and Alahna Williams for Queen.
When Homecoming duchess Hope Mathis was asked about how she felt about winning, she stated, “I feel accomplished throughout the whole campaign and trying to market myself. I’m just glad that I won because I stood up all night and only had like two hours of sleep to really promote myself,” Mathis said.
Hope was also asked about what her advice would be to people who want to run for homecoming court next year: “Try to be unique and not try to stay on theme … I noticed with all of my competitors, is that they stayed on theme and tried not to do something unique for themselves,” Mathis said.
Homecoming was truly one night to remember, with students dancing, hanging out with friends, and playing games!
